Dealing with Drones: Emerging Partnerships at Havelock, NC and Charleston, SC

This panel will explore two innovative examples of how installations, communities and the private sector are beginning to partner on counter UAS efforts and deconfliction of air space for joint UAS utilization. Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC and the City of Havelock are engaging in a robust plan to develop a layered defense for the installations and ensuring that information regarding UAS events is evaluated, translated and shared in real-tme. Along with UAS deterrence and deconfliction comes challenges such as the current legal structures and allowances for UAS usage, jurisdiction for enforcement, and interagency cooperation. Joint Base Charleston is also developing a comprehensive system that will provide a multi-layered defense. Working with the private sector, installation leaders are implementing an innovative appraoch t for the installation as well as protecting critical community infrastructure.
